Salena Historic Renovation

ImageThis project is the historic renovation of a building in south Saint Louis City. The circa 1850's building was originally a post office with a carriage house in the back for the horses.  It was later utilized as a boarding house and the back building was converted into living quarters as well.  The purpose of the current restoration is to retain the structures' historic character while providing contemporary comforts.  The one-bedroom residence has an open living space with a fully conventional kitchen, full bath with laundry and a separate den/office space.  In addition to the main house is the 2-story carriage guest house that has been rebuilt with historical accuracy on its original limestone foundation.   The guest house contains its own kitchen, living room, full bath with laundry, an office space, and a bedroom.  Check out our photo galleries of the main house and the carriage house.

The Carriage House was basically rebuilt from scratch. Although the northern foundation was saved, the remaining brick and rubble-limestone foundation had to be reconstructed on the other three sides. Although an historically accurate reproduction was the goal, modifications were made to the staircase design inside and the basement windows to allow for bedroom egress.
